What’s up Forum,
Hope you’ve been having a great start to the fall holiday season. Sometimes during the season of family, travel, stress, depression, consumerism, and familial love, we need some breaks and distractions from the chaos.
here are a few things I’ve been filling my time with for a brief reprieve from the stress surrounding the holidays, a baby being born in 16 days, and literally a birthday every month from November to January…
I promise I’m fine lol. thanks to Youtube
What is Gain Staging"?
This sweetwater video covers the process of setting the optimal audio signal for the best sonic performance. They cover the main goals for gainstaging in the signal path.
One of my favorite parts of the video is towards the end where he talks about 32bit float. even if you don’t ‘technically’ have to worry about clipping, setting up a proper gain structure from start to finish is essentially the best way to get the optimal sound quality no matter what system you’re mixing on.
Honestly, this is the end all be all gains staging conversation. From now on, I am setting my mixes based on this gain staging structure outline in the video.
I could be here for days arguing about gainstaging etc.
Greg Kading Full Unreleased VLAD TV interview on Investigating 2Pac’s Murder and Keefe D’s Confession.
It’s incredible how these (and some of the mafia guys) love to talk about their criminal activity.
Honestly, this has been on my watchlist for the longest. I’ve probably seen most of the interviews from the bodyguards, assailants, and more.

But honestly, this is huge news, this was one of the first big deaths in hip hop and through all of the conspiracy theories out there, I believe the stories from the people involved.
I draw parallels to this and the Tekashi 69 situation as the allure of ‘street cred’ leads to serious consequences.
Apple Vision Pro
I’m excited to see what this means for music production. I love Apple products (but am always open to anything else) however this looks more like a fully immersive experience on the Mac.
I imagine a future world where the Akai Force/MPC will integrate perfectly and we’ll have the ability to integrate the software with both sets of hardware for a more integrated music creation experience.
Taking it a step further, imagine creating a sound by manually manipulating the wavetables that are virtually inside of your ‘room’.
Though I cannot afford it, I’m excited about it!
Why the Hell Are Young Dudes Taking ROIDS!?!?!?!?
While never judging anyone for the decisions they make, I’d have to say as a fitness trainer I disagree with some of the decisions that young men are making nowadays to ‘look fit’ for the gram.
this short mini-doc by Vice covers the rise in anabolic steroid use among young men in the UK.
I understand that the work behind gaining a physique can be discouraging and anabolics provide the short-term solution. Either way, I’ve garnered a lot of personal success by using all-natural methods that have zero side effects, especially in my 20s.
I couldn’t imagine being hooked on steroids, they seem expensive and pretty dangerous.
Famous Amous Documentary
This seems to be a pretty dated doc, however, there are a few things to learn from his story..
one, imagine this story told from the modern context.. yeesh.. they played nice music through this one..
If this doc had been made nowadays there’s no way he comes out the good guy.. lol..
However, secondly, this is a great tale in equity and balancing self-promotion, creating a cost-effective product, and operating the business that delivers the product to the consumer you’re attracting through your marketing.
If any link in that chain is broken then you will ultimately end up like Uncle Amos.
Great watch
GREAT Tutorial on Making Cues for Sync Placements
I watch a lot of Jesse’s videos on Sync music, this is one of the best formulas that you can follow for making tracks that editors love to work with.
We often overthink things, however, this example uses only 8 tracks and sounds huge.
4 Fundamental Building Blocks of Every Synth
Sound Design Full Course
This is hands down an amazing walkthrough of sound design. There are a lot of plugins in our DAWs”s and honestly, for a while, I wanted to be sure what everything did.
this video is incredibly useful if you want to learn more about synthesis, sound design, and creating your sounds from scratch.
Collect Call With Suge Knight
Suge Knight the former owner and head of Death Row Records speaks on his past as he serves a 28-year prison bid.
Some of these episodes are hard to follow along, however, I can appreciate the nuance in Suge’s storytelling. If you know the Death Row/Tupac and Biggie story you’ll see that Suge is giving a little more insight into other key players in Death Row’s demise and ultimately the demise of Tupac and Biggie.
Why Spotify Will Fail, (psst there might be some crime involved)
This is incredibly interesting and also part of a two-part series. Benn Jordan is one of my favorite creators in the music space and is often an inspiration for this blog.
Recently Benn has come under fire for some of his takes on the Polyend Play + . Whether or not he’s a shill is not my place, nor do I believe it is anyone's place to send hate anyone's way. So since he has stopped his gear review series, I’ve been diving into some of his other more ‘evergreen content’ and it’s incredibly informative.
This particular video is about how people are seriously taking advantage of Spotify. I belive some of the biggest artists in the world are utilizing this service to boost their perceived value.
Very good find here.
The Millie Vanillie Documentary
I know this is NOT on YouTube but I’m sure you’ll be able to watch this somehow.
This was an incredibly inspiring documentary in a few aspects. This covers a bit of the history, rise, and fall of Milli Vanilli.. I find that as a producer/beatmaker, you can really make your ideas come to life if you put together the right team. Probably an unpopular take, but unless you make tracks you probably wouldn’t understand.
Either way, this is a really good watch, I had to put this here even though it’s not on the good ol’ YouTube. But chances are, if you’re crafty enough you can find this.
