Whats up fam,
It feels like it’s been a lifetime since I’ve dropped anything of significance for you. Belive it or not, I’ve got almost fifty drafts waiting to drop, but honestly, I’ve been a bit conflicted.
Over the past nine months, we’ve probably seen one of the most monumental years in hip-hop. From the Kendrick/Drake spectacle to Diddy, Young Durk, and more recently Bricc Baby and Big U.
It seems virtually every week there is something to talk about and I want to branch the blog into areas of personal interest and to voice my opinion on the topics. But isn’t that part of the problem? I don’t consider myself a journalist per se, however feeling the tug of journalistic integrity I’d want to do the topics justice by impartial reporting.
But that’s a major shift in the identity of this platform. I created this avenue to voice my opinion, but also to help connect with other music creators like myself.
ON one hand, Reporting on hip-hop from an impartial standpoint ultimately turns this place into a Hip Hop Blog, which I never sought to create. On the other, if I voice my unfiltered opinion on the issues, i’m contributing to the swarm of uninvited opinions on popular culture. And that is not who I am or what I’ve sought out to do.
I’ve worked hard to earn your trust and I take your time seriously. I appreciate every open email and post you read, or like, and only intend to provide value.
Which leads me to my decision.
My name isn’t some derivative of Voltron.. Its SOUL-TRON.
Ever since I was a kid I’ve had some weird connection with electronics and computer interfaces. Not a savant by far, but I feel that my soul is connected in some way. The first time I sat down at an MPC I just disappeared into the thing.
As an artist, I’ve sought to express my SOVL through electronics. In some weird way, the solitude of disappearing into a digital interface can help you find yourself.
And this blog is an extension of that journey into self.
So I’ll talk about things that matter when they matter.
You’ll never have to worry about me chiming in on something just because it’s current. Unless it affects the -SOVL Collective- or has some overlap in a meaningful way with our community I’m not going to talk about it.
do expect slightly more opinion-based content that might not be ‘Music Creator’ related… From time to time I may slide a post in on the main blog.
If you’re here for mixing tips don’t worry, I’ll keep dropping those gems.. You can subscribe directly to “the Mix Hub” and “The SD Card” for mixing stuff and never see any opinion content if you like.
Oh and “The SOVL Collective” kindof has a ring..
We’ll see what the future has in store for the name, but just know I’m always looking to serve at the highest level and will continue to drop 100% authentic content you can trust.
