Unlocking the 'Secret' FX Rack Hidden on Your Force/MPC
There are only 4 insert slots per track which can be limiting at times however, creative use of keygroup and submix tracks can actually open you up to *20fx per track.
Now you might be saying ,'hey man, that's not really a hidden fx racck' .. well no its not.. BUT, if you're into sound design just hear me out.. okay..
Starting with a drum track (the most possible inserts/effects) with each pad there are 8 drum fx and 4 insert effects :
then on the second page of effects there are 4 more slots
We already know that each track has 4 insert slots but using the submixes you get an extra 4 .. So if we tally all of that up for a drum track its
8 Drum FX +
4 Drum Insert Effects+
4 Track Effects+
4 Submix Effects
-------------------------
20 Total effects for a drum track!
You might ask in what scenario would you need 20 different effects on one sound. Well what scenario can you create where you'd need 20 effects?
Often enough, I'll take a One Shot sample, play a progression , stack some effects, resample it, chop it up, add some effects, and resample that lol ... so all in all I may have added 40+ effects to something that Already had effects.. why ?
its a mix between because I can and a completely unique sound...
The point is, work around/with your limitations,
The next highest will be Keygroup tracks.
I personally use a lot of 1shot kits , they're just as good and with all of the resampling/chopping +resampling/halftiming etc.. their sonic character works perfectly for samplemaking.
Keygroup tracks have 4 inserts per keygroup (1shots only have 1 keygroup so they're CPU friendly)
then you get the 4 track inserts plus your submix inserts
So when you tally those up you get:
4 Keygroup Insert Effects+
4 Track Effects+
4 Submix Effects
---------------------------
12 Total effects for a keygroup track
Plugin and audio tracks get max 8 inserts but some plugins have their own built in effects so this does vary by instrument.
so yeah, in a roundabout not blatantly obvious (hence the term hidden) you can get up to 20 fx per 'track' or sound or whatever you decide to run through that many effects.
*technically you can get 24 if you add effects to the looper/sampler then resample
I encourage you to experiment with your workflow a bit, find something that's done in a DAW and figure out how to do the same thing on your Force.. Believe it or not, most plugins are doing sound manipulation or audio 'mangling' in a way that can be done on your hardware.
Once you print it, its YOURS! nobody else has THAT sound .. that's the beauty in stacking a bunch of effects.. if you think its poo , well that may be true but its your poo.. and nobody can take that away from you.. you did that...
So i encourage you to find your limitations and work at the very peak of them. .. see what you can create that sounds like you..
*Thanks for making it this far down lol, till next time !
